This year the theme from the Mental Health Foundation is Nature.

Your employer just asking how you are, being aware of how you are and offering help if needed is more important now than it ever has been.

At Maya we pride ourselves on being very aware of the importance of mental health, and find the we get the best from our team when they are happy and healthy. It is the world we work in after all.

Since moving to working from home this has for most people made the working day more flexible without a commute in the mix, but also means it can be very easy to stay inside at your desk all day. Even a walk to work was something!

One of the small things we encourage each other to do is to get outside daily, and this is very much built into our day.

Here are some other ways you can get that nature fix on a daily basis:

  1. Grow something. Whatever space you have plant some seeds and watch them grow, its incredible rewarding and ensures you get outside to look after your little seedlings and see how they are getting on.
  2. Exercise outside. Whether its a bike ride, a walk at lunchtime or a full on PT session in a park, exercising outside is so much better than being in a sweaty gym, rain or shine get out there and make those endorphins.
  3. Get away at the weekend to a new environment. Whether thats heading to the sea, a huge forest or up a mountain, go that bit further from your everyday to something a bit awe inspiring to remind you how wonderful nature is.

4. Go foraging, this one can feel super tricky but there are lots of books and helpful articles online and once you start it gets easier. Try looking for elderflower (coming out very soon) to make cordial and jack by the hedge for adding tasty leaves and flowers to salads.

5. Go ‘wild’ swimming… this has had a massive resurgence recently, find a local outdoor pool, river or if you’re lucky enough the sea and take the plunge. The benefits are numerous and people who do it are evangelical about it.
